VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. (WNEM) -

Authorities are hoping new artist renderings can help identify a woman found dead along a Michigan interstate in 1988.

The woman is known only as “196 Jane.” She was found by a hunter in October 1988 along I-196 in Van Buren County, near the city of Covert.

Investigators believe she may have died sometime between April and August of 1988.

Police now hope new information and artist renderings may help develop more tips in the case.

Investigators said the remains show signs of osteopenia, which could later lead to osteoporosis.

Osteopenia shows up in younger women due to excessive alcohol consumption or smoking, eating disorders, long term steroid use, vitamin deficiencies and teenage pregnancy.

Investigators believe the woman had given birth to at least one child.

Police said the woman could have been anywhere between 15 and 40 years old when she died.

She was about 5 feet tall and weighed about 100 pounds. She had brown or blonde hair.

Investigators said the woman had good oral hygiene, but may not have been to a dentist for a few years before her death.

Anyone with information should call Michigan State Police at 269-657-5551.
