FREELAND, MI (WNEM) -

A Freeland man was arrested and charged with aggravated stalking.

Michael Bates met a woman through an online dating site and when the date didn’t go as planned, he started sending her threatening messages, the Midland County Prosecutor’s Office said.

He was also charged with one count of using a computer to commit a crime.

Bates has been released on bond.

He is due back in court on June 12 for a probable cause hearing.

In 2015, Bates was sentenced to probation for making a death threat against his high school.
