CLARE COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A Mid-Michigan man has been sentenced for his role in an assault of another man at a cemetery.

The Clare County Prosecutor’s Office said 50-year-old Brett Anthony Ostrander of Gladwin County pleaded guilty May 1 to assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder or by strangulation.

The plea comes after an investigation into an assault and battery that occurred on June 17, 2017, at the Hamilton Township Cemetery.

Investigators said Ostrander and 43-year-old Christie Austin attacked a 22-year-old Harrison man when he was digging for buried money in the cemetery.

Police said they attacked the victim with a hammer and shovel.

A judge sentenced Ostrander on June 4 to prison for 8 to 20 years. He’s also ordered to pay court fees.
