MT. PLEASANT, MI (WNEM) -

Authorities say a quick response from staff and police may have saved the life of a Central Michigan University orientation student who collapsed during an event.

The CMU Police Department said the 17-year-old girl was participating in a skit on stage at Warriner Hall when she suddenly collapsed.

That’s when the department said staff members sprang into action.

They called 911 for help while others checked the girl’s vitals and began performing CPR. The department said an automated external defibrillator was also found in the building before police arrived.

The student was taken to a Mt. Pleasant hospital and then transferred to a hospital in Detroit.

Police said she is recovering.

Her name was not immediately released.
