CRAWFORD COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A man with ties to Mid-Michigan who survived several days in the elements has passed away nearly a week after he was found safe.

Robert Knapp was reported missing May 26 after he left his home near Lovells. His family said they were concerned for his safety because he suffered from schizophrenia, dementia and Parkinson’s disease.

Police found Knapp near Granger Road in Oscoda County after surviving five nights and six days out in the elements.

He was taken to Munson Hospital for dehydrations and some other issues, according to officials.

His wife announced Wednesday he passed away.

Knapp and his wife lived for years in the Saginaw area until moving up north in 2007. He was employed by MDOT and worked most of his career out of the Saginaw office.

Funeral services have not yet been announced.
