A Michigan family is thanking the community after their stolen dog was returned home.

Angelica Olvera said their seven-month-old American bully dog was stolen right out of their front yard in broad daylight.

The man was seen in video from surveillance cameras across the street playing with both dogs for a bit. He walked back and forth along the gates, and then after about three minutes, he opened the gate and took the dog.

He then took off in a silver Ford.

"It just shows there that what type of person he is because he wasn't shy he wasn't embarrassed. Nothing. He was going from door to door, from gate to gate to see if my other dog was out,” Olvera said.

Olvera only had the dog for seven months and said Luna cost more than $2,000.

"I'm not taking it easy, but I just wish and hope that she's okay for now, and I wish that she would come back,” she said.

On Saturday, the person who took the dog said it was a misunderstanding.

“He called me and said he has my dog,” Olvera said. “He said it was a confusion. That it was a dog they took from him that looked exactly like her.”

Either way, Olvera said she is just very happy their Luna is back home.

The family had initially contacted Detroit Police about their stolen dog.
