The Mid-Michigan community celebrated Sunday the life of a young girl who passed away this week after her brave battle with cancer.

“The last couple of days have really…it’s not the same. So, this means so much to us,” said Teresa Castillo, Trinity’s mother.

It was a party fit for a princess, but her family said God had other plans for 8-year-old Trinity Barrett, the beautiful soul it was meant for.

“She ended up passing away in our arms. She was exhausted. We wanted more time and God just was ready to take her,” Castillo said.

Trinity lost her long battle with a rare form of brain cancer on Friday night, just one day before her big party.

Castillo said she knew her daughter would have wanted the show to go on.

“Knowing Trinity, she would’ve wanted this to go on. She was never a “Debbie Downer.” If she wasn’t feeling good everyone still had to party. And so, me and her dad decided that night that it’s still a celebration of her life whether she’s here or not. She’s still watching down on us seeing everyone who came out. This is what she would’ve wanted,” Castillo said.

She said the party was everything Trinity would’ve wanted and more.

She was a dog love, especially pugs, and she had a special place in her heart for unicorns.

Castillo said the bittersweet day was a good reminder of all the things little Trinity loved and that she’ll always miss her little girl.

“She was our light, literally made our day. I don’t …it’s going to be hard to not have that light around anymore because she always brightened up our days. She was momma’s girl,” Castillo said.

Trinity will be laid to rest next weekend.

Funeral services are set for Saturday and Sunday at Case Funeral Home.

The family is looking for any donation to help cover costs.
