Kittens in Mid-Michigan are under attack in shocking cases of abuse.

At least four times in the past week, people across Mid-Michigan said they have discovered kittens who were thrown like trash from moving cars.

“People aren’t very nice. Unfortunately, the humane society sees a lot of them like this,” said Dr. Tammy Zorn, veterinarian.

Zorn has carefully cared for a kitten named Harlee. She said it’s pretty clear Harlee’s injuries indicate she was tossed from a moving vehicle.

“The poor little kitten’s lower lip has been slightly degloved off of the jaw. Her nose has been split. So fortunately enough, the jaw has not been broken,” Zorn said.

The Humane Society of Bay County is currently housing Harlee.

Beckie McClenahan, with the human society, said within the last week there have been three instances of someone tossing cats from moving vehicles.

One incident happened on Wilder Road. In that incident, four cats were tossed and only one survived.

Another incident happened by one of the city’s bridges. Three cats were thrown in that incident and two of them survived.

Harlee was flung from a car near Millington.

Folks at the humane society said there are more humane ways to get rid of a cat if you don’t want it.

“There’s many rescues out there who will take cats. The Humane Society of Bay County is one of them. There is also animal shelters that you can contact and when they have room they would be more than happy to take them in,” McClenahan said.
