From watery eyes to a runny nose, if your allergies have been awful the past few months you’re not alone.

Doctors said this allergy season has been particularly bad due to high pollen counts.

“When everything started blooming, everybody’s noses started running and we all started sneezing,” said Kay Nordin, Au Gres resident.

Nordin and a lot of other folks are suffering through a pretty bad allergy season. She sees an allergist to help her get through her pollen-filled days.

“I know that I have airborne allergies, but I know I have some others too. That’s why I’m here,” Nordin said.

Nordin was at Dr. Richard Horbal’s office in Bay City. The doctor has some tips you might want to follow if your allergies are bringing you down.

“Antihistamines work pretty good. There are several out on the market. There’s Allegra, there’s Claritin, Zyrtec and Zyzol. And the old ones. So if you take them before you go outside you get better results after the fact. Eye drops are also pretty good to help the eyes,” Horbal said.

If you suffer from allergies and you’re a bicyclist or jogger, the best time to do so is in the middle of the day.

“In the evenings and the mornings when the earth is clam the pollens tend to settle down around nasal level and you breathe them in,” Horbal said.

Meanwhile, Nordin made a good point when it comes to allergy season and living in Michigan.

“This is such a beautiful area of the world. We just put up with it because we love it,” she said.
