Power restored in Saginaw County, outages remain in Genesee County

MID-MICHIGAN (WNEM) -

Thousands of people were without power in Mid-Michigan on Tuesday.

The power outages were reported in Clare, Genesee and Saginaw County.

Saginaw County had the most outages with 4,252 consumers without power. Power was restored about 1:30 p.m.

Students at Herig Elementary School in Saginaw were released at 1 p.m. due to an outage, the district said.

Carrollton Township police said power was out at township offices, as well as multiple areas throughout Carrollton, Zilwaukee and Saginaw. Township and police department phone lines were also down due to the outages. Power has since been restored.

The power outage in Saginaw County was caused by an equipment malfunction at a substation, according to Debra Dodd, spokesperson for Consumers Energy.

Clare County had 27 consumers without power, but power has since been restored.

Genesee County has 883 consumers without power. Power is expected to be restored about 6:15 p.m.
