A 36-year-old Farwell man pleaded guilty to murder on Tuesday, June 12.

James Kuhns pleaded guilty to open murder for the death of Leonard Hempel.

Hempel was killed in April of 2016.

The case will proceed to a penalty hearing where the judge will hear testimony and determine whether this is a first or second-degree murder, Clare County Prosecutor Michelle Ambrozaitis said.

The judge will then impose a sentence.

That hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. on July 10.
