Students in 5 area school districts will get summer lunches

Posted: Updated:

A grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture will make sure children from five area school districts have lunches throughout the summer.

Across the state a total of 16 school districts will receive funding to provide $30 per child per month.

Beginning on June 1, children in Bay-Arenac, Clare-Gladwin, Genesee Intermediate, Midland County and Tuscola Intermediate School Districts are receiving meal packages from the state.

Parents in participating districts were sent program materials as well as pre-loaded Bridge Cards to use at WIC (Women, Infants and children)-authorized stores.

The cards will allow families to get specific food items, including milk, eggs, fruit and vegetables.
