SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

A Saginaw woman said her yard has become a serious safety concern and she is demanding action.

A storm in early May brought down a tree and several powerlines. That tree and the live wires are still in her yard.

She said she has tried to get help from Consumers Energy with no luck.

“I was home, yeah. The neighbors came running over and said, ‘there’s going to be a fire in your backyard.’ All the wires flew off the house,” said Carmen Furlo, Saginaw resident.

Furlo was home when the storm hit on May 4. She said a tree in her yard knocked over a utility pole belonging to Consumers Energy.

The tree was so large it damaged a neighbor’s house and garage roofs.

Furlo said Consumers had a tree service cut up the tree and it has taken care of its responsibility. However, the downed utility line and wires are attached to it.

Furlo said Consumers is not coming through with repairs. She said a blame game is going on between several utilities.

“Consumers says to call here, Spectrum call there. I mean, it’s been he said, she said,” Furlo said.

Furlo used to take pretty good care of her yard, but it has become overgrown. She can’t mow it because she has been told there could be some downed wires in the yard.

Furlo also said she told Consumers months before the storm hit that its wires were wrapped up in the tree. She said Consumers told her it would take care of the problem, but crews never showed up.

“Consumers said if they would have done that the tree might not have went down,” Furlo said.

A representative from Consumers said they understand Furlo is frustrated, but Consumers can’t remove the pole until AT&T and another cable company remove the cable wires from the pole. She said Consumers has contacted those companies.

The representative also said Consumers removed brush and debris, along with the downed tree.
