ARENAC COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A 70-year-old man was beaten and robbed while camping in Arenac County.

The man was camping on state land near River Road around Omer when four people armed with a pellet gun slit open his tent with a razor blade, beat him up, robbed him, and then took off, according to Arenac County Undersheriff Don McIntyre.

It happened on June 10 about 9 p.m.

McIntyre said the man then drove himself to a gas station for help where he was able to describe two of the suspects before being sent to the hospital.

Investigators were able to arrest three men and one woman later that night near Sterling.

Joshua Giles, 20, was charged with armed robbery and possession of marijuana.

Paul Giles, 19, was charged with armed robbery, contempt of court, probation violation, possession of marijuana and driving with a suspended license.

James Hassenzahl, 39, was charged with armed robbery and assault with intent to do great bodily harm.

The woman has not yet been arraigned.

The victim is expected to recover.
