SVSU to host education employment fair

Posted: Updated:

Michigan is facing a shortage of teachers and education support staff.

To help meet the growing demand for teachers, Saginaw Valley State University is holding a job fair just for people in the education industry.

Craig Douglas is dean of the College of Education at Saginaw Valley State University.

“I’m hearing from superintendents and principals with openings nearly every day,” he said.

School districts across the state are looking to fill positions for Kindergarten through 12th grade educators, whether permanent or substitute, administrators or special needs teachers.

Douglas said the school regularly shares those opportunities with students and alumni, but because of high demand, SVSU is opening the job fair to the public.

More than 30 school districts and organizations, including a handful from the Great Lakes Bay Region, will be talking to prospective applicants on Tuesday, June 19 from noon to 2 in the Curtiss Hall banquet rooms.

“This fair is also a great chance to meet with people face-to-face and make a connection that could lead to an opportunity now or in the future,” Douglas said.
