A list of donation items needed amid flooding in Upper Peninsula

ESSEXVILLE, MI (WNEM) -

A Mid-Michigan community is stepping up to help those impacted by the recent flooding in the Upper Peninsula.

Heavy rainfall washed away large pieces of concrete and asphalt, destroying several roads in Houghton and Menominee County. The devastation Gov. Rick Snyder to issue a disaster declaration.

Now, the Essexville Public Safety Department and several members of the Mid-Michigan community are coming together to help northern Michigan residents.

The department is collecting basic staple items and cleaning supplies. Some of the items needed include:

  • Fans
  • Dehumidifiers
  • Lawn chemical sprayers
  • Extension cords
  • Power strips
  • Power washers
  • Long rubber gloves
  • Pry bars
  • Crow bars
  • Face masks
  • Eye protection goggles
  • First aid kits
  • Cleaning supplies, paper towel, bleach, etc. 
  • Toiletries 
  • New/like new clothing
  • Bottled water
  • Rubber gloves
  • Walmart gift cards
  • Toothbrush/toothpaste

Any items can be dropped off at the Essexville Fire Station. A crew will then drive the items to Houghton County on Wednesday, June 27.

Donations can also be dropped off at the following location: 

  • Hemlock Administration Office
    • 200 Wilson Street in Hemlock
    • Friday, Monday & Tuesday 7 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
