STANDISH, MI (WNEM) -

A Mid-Michigan casino is gambling on a $60 million expansion project.

Saganing Eagles Landing Casino is betting on the project to create more jobs and increase tourism.

Workers laid the last metal piece of the roof to the new hotel and restaurant on Wednesday.

The hotel will be five stories with 148 guest rooms. It will host an additional 400 slot machines.

During the construction, that started about a year ago, they used 90 percent local workers.

Soaring Eagle Casino CEO Raymond Brenny said they can’t wait to bring the new addition to Standish.

“We’re actually going to be a true destination location now that people can actually come here and spend the night for a night or two and enjoy the facility. A lot of people like to enjoy something different within the area and I think we have that to offer,” Brenny said.

Brenny said the new addition will bring 160 job openings to the area when it opens in April 2019.
