FRANKENMUTH, MI (WNEM) -

There's now a big, shiny onion in Michigan's Little Bavaria.

The Frankenmuth Cheese Haus hoisted a 23-foot copper onion dome into place on Wednesday.

The dome was made in Cambellsville, Kentucky, almost 500 miles from its new home.

"For those of you that are familiar with Frankenmuth, we're known as Michigan's Little Bavaria. We like to emulate the German architecture as much as possible. With the building of our new cheese, which will be three times the size as our current one, we wanted to be as authentic as possible," said Martha Zehnder-Kaczynski, vice president of Bavarian Inn Lodge.

The new tower also features figurine movements called a figurinespiel, an animated story about popular cheeses from around the world and a sundial.
