A large police operation in a neighborhood on Flint's southeast side has residents concerned and confused.

Several law enforcement agencies converged on the neighborhood just before 10 a.m. on Thursday. Some of the officers were wearing SWAT gear.

The exact purpose of their presence remains a mystery.

"Today I guess they were inside the house collecting evidence. A house they needed to take a second look at," said Jennie Stein, with the organization Missing People of Genesee County.

Neighbors said the abandoned home was a hot bed for criminal activity.

"There's nobody in the house. It's been vacant since we moved in here last fall, but that house has been used for drug dealing and prostitution," said Mike Hogan, Flint resident.

That is why Stein went by the house on the 800 block of Leland Street. She said the house is one of the many houses she told local police about months ago.

"It's really disturbing because we've told law enforcement about numerous houses in this area," Stein said.

She said members of her team found some suspicious items in the home a few weeks ago. She believes that led to Thursday's activity.

"But seems like a month or two after we have told them it's a hot house. We're getting a lot of tips about this house that something actually happens at that house," Stein said.

She wouldn't say what her organization found, but hopes whatever the investigators found on Thursday will help them solve at least some of the missing cases in Genesee County.

"These families all need closure. These girls need to be at home with their families or later rest," Stein said.
