FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

Flint police say one person is in custody, and they are looking for two more persons of interest after two bodies were found in the Flint River on Thursday.

An investigator also said a possible grave was found nearby, and people were spotted running away from it around the time the bodies were discovered.

Police received the call from a passerby at 4:52 on July 12 for a possible body in the river in the area of Riverside Drive and E. Hamilton Avenue. The passerby said they noticed one body near a door in the water.

Officers responded to the scene and discovered there were two bodies in the river under the I-475 overpass.

The gender, age and race of the bodies is unknown at this time, Flint Police Det. Sgt. Tyrone Booth said.

He also said it is unclear if the bodies originated from Flint or came from upstream.

A hole, roughly the size of a body, was found in a wooded area just a few feet from the location the bodies were located. Investigators said the shallow grave appears to be recently dug.

The single grave is about 6 feet long and about 2 feet deep. Plastic gloves, mortar and a breeze block were found sitting beside it.

Neighbors who live nearby hope they find out who did this.

"It's bad, but like I'm kind of used to stuff like this happening because I've lived here my whole life and I've heard the gunshots and all that stuff. So I'm not surprised. I just don't know what goes through your head to be able to do this to someone else's life. It's like horrible. I don't know how someone could live with themselves after doing that," said Abraham Ruiz, neighbor.

Police are encouraging anyone with information related to the incident to contact police or Crime Stoppers.

"We think that the community is safe. We don't think there is a reason to be concerned based on this," Booth said.

The incident remains under investigation.

The incident comes one week after another body was found in the Flint River. It is unclear if the incidents are related.
