Bay City couple creates neighborhood watch to help residents

BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -

One Bay City couple is hoping to bring their community together.

Josh and Dana Frost started a city-wide neighborhood watch.

“We’re trying to help the community. We want community clean up days. We want to help elderly folks, things like that,” Josh said.

He got the idea to start the group after his family was struck by paintballs while driving in Bay City.

“My youngest daughter was in the car. She’s 10. She was scared. She was flipping out. And she thought it was a real gun,” Josh said. “That really was the turning point.”

His neighbors went out to help that night, sparking the idea of community.

The group is on Facebook and called Bay City Neighbors United. In only two days 800 people have joined.

“It’s wonderful because you didn’t realize there were so many people out there that cared so much,” Dana said.

The Frosts said they don’t want the group to be a place for gossip.

“We don’t want to be that, ‘why’s the cop at this neighborhood?’ ‘Why is this going on over here?’ ‘Why’s there a firetruck?’ We want to be more hands on,” Josh said.

They don’t want to be vigilantes, just neighbors helping those who need it. They also plan to walk the neighborhoods.

“Different neighborhoods, not just our neighborhood. But the west side, the south end, the east side. And it’s just gonna be different times. Even 3 a.m., you know there’s gonna be different people just walking around, checking out things and making sure people are safe,” Dana said.

They said they are thinking of having their first neighborhood walk Aug. 4, but the date is not set in stone.
