SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

A local hospice facility is closings its doors.

Covenant Healthcare of Saginaw confirmed the impending closures of its Cartwright Hospice Facility.

Kristin Knoll, a hospital spokeswoman, said the hospice care facility is shutting down due to a lack of patient use. Knoll said in the past year there was an increase in the number of days the facility was closed because no patients were there to care for.

Knoll also said on days the facility was open, it averaged having just one patient in the facility per day.

Patients who are currently there will be cared for, however, the facility will no longer be accepting additional patients.

The six full-time employees, along with part-time and occasional staff, will be offered the opportunity to apply for other positions within the Covenant HealthCare System, according to Knoll.
