Jason Fielder

Jason is happy to be back in Mid-Michigan! He joined the TV5 sports team in November, 2006.

Jason began his career at WBKB-TV in Alpena, spending just over a year on the sunrise side, first as the weekend sports anchor/weekday sports reporter, then as the sports director.

Prior to that, he held internships at 1) WTOP Radio in Washington, D.C. where he covered major league baseball, especially the Orioles and Nationals; 2) WEYI-TV 25 in Clio, where he mostly worked in news; 3) WKTV 2 in Utica, NY where he covered sports; and 4) WSTM-TV NBC 3 in Syracuse, NY where he covered sports.

Jason grew up in the small town of Deerfield, Michigan, and received a B.A. from Saginaw Valley State University where he double majored in Communication and Political Science. He then went on to graduate school at the prestigious S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications in Syracuse, NY where he received a Master of Science in Broadcast Journalism.

Jason has volunteered for the MDA, co-hosting the entire local portion of the Jerry Lewis Telethon at WBKB. He also has been the keynote speaker at various SVSU Scholarship Recognition Programs, and also was the celebrity auctioneer at the Cardinal Cabaret, a spring fundraiser for the SVSU Athletic Department.

Jason is a founding member of the Upsilon Delta Chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon at SVSU, and a member of the Alpha Chi National College Honor Society.

While at TV5, Jason has developed a series of sports stories called "Fielder's Choice." In them, he takes on sports challenges from viewers. He won a 2008 Michigan AP Award for best feature story for his "Fielder's Choice" story wherein he was challenged by a young female archer.

In his spare time, Jason likes to hang out with friends and family, sing in his rock band, and meet new people.
