Two adults have been charged in a deadly house fire that killed three children.
Rodney King Jr. 40, of Burton, has been charged with three counts of felony murder and first degree arson.
Erica Starkey, 39, of Flint, the mother of two of the children killed, has been charged with one count of felony murder and two counts of second-degree murder. She has also been charged with three counts of child abuse in the second degree, three counts of unlawful imprisonment and two counts of killing an animal.
A child called 911 about 6 a.m. on June 10 to report the home at 643 Vermilya Ave. in Flint was on fire.
When firefighters arrived they found the victims, 13-year-old Onyah Starkey and her brother 4-year-old Kaydon Hull, as well as 14-year-old Brianna Beaushaw, inside the home. Beaushaw was a friend of Onyah who was spending the night.
All three children were taken to the hospital where Onyah and Kaydon were pronounced dead. Beaushaw died on June 12 from her injuries.
Investigators said King was walking home from a bar about 3 a.m. when he met up with Erica Starkey and decided to go back to her home to do drugs. At 3:30 a.m. they both left in attempt to find more drugs, but returned to the home shortly after.
About 4 a.m. Starkey left again to find more drugs, officials said. Investigators believe King gave Erica Starkey money for the drugs, but when she did not return with them he got mad and set the couch on fire.
Police believe King did not know children were in the house at the time.
During their investigation officials found the 4-year-old boy was locked inside a room on the first floor of the home. Investigators determined the boy tried to escape the room, but a padlock kept him from leaving.
Two dogs were also killed in the fire.
