The search for a missing driver is over after officials say they’ve found his body.
Investigators have identified the man as 44-year-old John Loughner.
“He just never came home, and I was going nuts,” said Jason Loughner, John’s brother. “They found the body today moments ago in a field less than a quarter-mile from the place.”
John was reported missing Friday night after deputies found his vehicle submerged in a ditch on Thomas Rd. near Gotham Rd. in Unionville.
The Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office, along with Michigan State Police, searched the area. Divers from Huron, Sanilac, and Tuscola counties also searched the waters.
The search was called off on Sunday and resumed today. John’s body was found less than a quarter-mile from where his vehicle was found.
Although the vehicle was found on Friday, the family wonders if John would still be alive if the search was not called off.
TV5 contacted the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff said the search was called off because they were waiting on specialized equipment to resume searching the water. The equipment didn’t arrive until Monday and the search became a recovery effort and not a rescue.
“Some closure now, at least that was the biggest thing with his children not knowing and still giving themselves small hope that he’d be walking through the door. At least now they can start the mourning process to move forward,” Jason said.
Investigators are still working to determine the cause of death. TV5 will update you when that information is available.
