Middle-weight Boxer Anthony "the Dog" Dirrell is fresh off his victory at the Dort Federal Event Center on Friday.

Now he is going toe-to-toe with hunger.

The Flint native hosted his first ever turkey giveaway on behalf of his Chance Foundation.

"It's great man, just to see the crowd that showed up at the venue and I want to thanks everyone that showed up. It's great," Dirrell said.

The feeling was definitely mutual. Several people came out, not only to receive a free turkey, but for a chance to meet with their hometown hero.

Dirrell's foundation is a non-profit that provides for kids and their families in Flint, just like those who helped him throughout his life.

Joe Givens is a close family friend who has known Dirrell since he was a child.

"I love them all. I've got family members involved and connected to their family and we're all close. And we're all standing strong," Givens said.

Dirrell said he doesn't know if he will bring the giveaway back next year.

"We'll have to see. Only time will tell. But it would be good. It would be good for the city," he said.
