A plan is in the works to build what’s being called the world’s largest sporting goods store, right here in Mid-Michigan.

Don Williamson, the former mayor of Flint, is looking to build the store on 102 acres at Mt. Morris Road and I-75, that’s in Genesee County’s Mt. Morris Township.

Williamson plans to sell everything from camper trailers to hunting equipment.

But Williamson has more than just a 100,000 square feet store in mind. He plans to create a 30 acre lake, full of fish, so people can test out equipment like boats and fishing gear.

Work is already underway at the site, and the plan is to be open in 14-to-16 months.

Williamson said he already has the necessary permits and approval for the project.
