Body recovery along the Flint River

A missing persons report led investigators to a body in the Flint River.

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office Dive and Rescue Team recovered a body from the Flint River near Riverfront Park on Wednesday.

Det. Tyrone Booth said the missing persons report was taken on Tuesday, which led to the river investigation.

Booth said it’s not clear if the body recovered is the person who was described in the missing persons report.

"We're investigating it and we'll determine exactly what or if there's a link between that and the missing person that was filed," Booth said.

He said they are looking into how the body got there and how long it was in the water.

Neither the age nor gender of the victim is known.

"Turn the remains over to the medical examiner's office and through testing and things like that and identification, we'll know those answers," Booth said.

People are encouraged to stay out of the area at this time.

Flint police are encouraging anyone who may know something about the incident to reach out as soon as possible.
