Federal agents and local officers have raided several medical facilities in Mid-Michigan.

The Thumb Narcotics Unit, along with agents from the Detroit Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Diversion Unit and other local officials raided facilities in Caro, Saginaw and the Mount Pleasant area.

The operation was the result of an investigation into certain medical personnel at the facilities that were allegedly routinely prescribing controlled substances for “illegitimate and non-professionally recognized therapeutic purposes”.

The investigation was sparked by pharmacists in the Tuscola County area who believed certain medical professionals were overprescribing medications to patients at these clinics.

Officials also seized personal property belonging to the suspects. Such as cash, vehicles and property, all that were suspected to be the products of that illegal conduct.

Tuscola County Prosecuting Attorney Mark Reene said that a request for criminal charges could be submitted in the next few weeks.
