Two men and two women have been charged after investigators said they made a plan to abduct, rape and murder a young child.
Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette announced Friday charges against 37-year-old David Bailey of Coldwater, 32-year-old Matthew Toole of Battle Creek, 32-year-old Talia Furman of Springfield and 19-year-old Jayme LaPointe of Athens.
Schuette said an in-depth investigation found the four conspired to kidnap a young child at a local county fair, subdue the child and then torture and sexually assault the child until their death. They then planned to dispose of the body, according to Schuette.
Each are facing three counts of:
- Conspiracy to Commit Murder (punishable by up to life in prison);
- Conspiracy to Commit Kidnapping (punishable by up to life in prison); and
- Conspiracy to Commit Criminal Sexual Conduct 1st Degree (punishable by up to life in prison).
All four were arrested by Michigan State Police.
Officials didn’t immediately release more details on the case.
