A Mid-Michigan man was found guilty after police say he stabbed his friend more than 50 times.
Ralph Butler, 51, was found guilty Wednesday, May 16 of second-degree murder, according to the Saginaw County Prosecutor’s Office. The jury took two days to deliberate the case.
Butler was accused of stabbing 57-year-old Andrew Cannon several times before cutting off his fingers and dumping his body in a grass field in Buena Vista Township.
Police said Butler and Cannon were neighbors who lived on S. 13th Street.
Cannon was stabbed 52 times in the chest and face, the prosecutor’s office said. His thumbs were also missing when police found his body. The fingertips were later found by a Dollar General employee in a trash bag along with bloody clothes.
The prosecutor’s office said Butler faces the possibility of life in prison.
His sentencing is scheduled for July 9.
