McKenna Schummer’s Beauty Bar is expanding to Hurley Medical Center in Flint.
You may remember McKenna from the previous stories TV5 did on her.
The 11-year-old recently lost her battle to a rare bone cancer called Osteosarcoma.
She underwent several treatments at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit. The treatments caused McKenna to suffer hair loss and her complexion to lose color. It was because of those side effects that she found a love for makeup.
Her mom said she loved wearing makeup and learning about it. She wanted other sick children to experience the same happiness and told her parents she wanted to open a beauty bar inside the hospital. Her mom, Melissa, began working to make her idea a reality.
McKenna never saw the beauty bar come to fruition before she passed away on March 6, but her family is moving forward with creating the beauty bar and carrying on the little girl’s legacy.
McKenna’s Beauty Bar will open at the Children’s Hospital in Detroit on June 22.
In addition, Melissa filed paperwork to bring the beauty bar to Hurley.
Hurley said they are 100 percent behind the project.
“A tribute to McKenna that will provide a much needed lift to our young patients,” the hospital said.
It is unclear when the beauty bar will open at Hurley.
