There were more than 16,000 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported in Michigan on Saturday.
As of Dec. 6, there were a total of 1,353,156 confirmed cases with 24,494 deaths in Michigan.
There were 16,590 new confirmed cases and 127 new deaths since Wednesday. The deaths announced include 47 deaths identified during a vital records review.
For most people, the coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. Older adults and people with existing health problems are among those particularly susceptible to more severe illness, including pneumonia. The vast majority of people recover.
As of Nov. 23, the state is reporting 1,090,933 people have recovered.
