There were more than 8,200 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported in Michigan on Friday.
As of Oct. 15, there were a total of 1,081,525 confirmed cases with 21,563 deaths in Michigan.
There were 8,297 new confirmed cases and 104 new deaths since Friday. That includes 58 deaths identified during a Vital Records review.
For most people, the coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. Older adults and people with existing health problems are among those particularly susceptible to more severe illness, including pneumonia. The vast majority of people recover.
As of Oct. 8, the state is reporting 945,175 people have recovered.
