In November, Nexteer Automotive placed 130 employees on a temporary layoff.
Dennis Hoeg, vice president of Nexteer and president of the North America Division, confirmed those layoffs have been made permanent.
"These [layoffs] are related to our ongoing efforts to secure Nexteer’s long-term sustainability," Hoeg said.
He said they'll be changing the Saginaw Driveline to "improve efficiency and cost competitiveness and rightsizing operations to align with customer volumes and program needs."
More layoffs could come in early 2020 but Nexteer said it's too early to know an exact number.
"There will be additional layoffs next year associated with the loss of work and outsourcing," UAW Local 699 President Tom Hurst said in a Facebook post.
Hurst believes the number of additional layoffs is expected to be between 200 and 300 employees by the end of April 2020.
