A motorcyclist was rush to the hospital after crashing into a deer on the roadway.

On Sunday, June 17 at about 8:25 p.m., Sanilac County Sheriff’s deputies were patrolling when they came across an accident.

Deputies arrived on the scene just after a 57-year-old man from Sandusky was northbound on N. Lakeshore Road, near Deckerville Road in Forester Township, when he struck a deer in the roadway.

The motorcycle veered to the east side of the road, hit a mailbox and the Sandusky man was ejected from the motorcycle.

A passerby just arrived on the scene as the deputies did, but did not call 9-1-1.

The man was taken to Deckerville Hospital by Sanilac EMS and later airlifted by Flight Care helicopter to Covenant in Saginaw.

No word on his condition.

Deputies said he was not wearing a helmet during the crash and do not believe alcohol was a factor.
