Authorities say a Mid-Michigan man was killed over the weekend in a crash involving an ATV.

It happened just after 8 p.m. Sunday, April 22 on Silverwood Road north of Ducker Road in North Branch.

Investigators said 40-year-old Joseph Armstrong was driving a 2012 Can Am quad runner southbound on Silverwood Road. His father was following directly behind him on a separate quad runner, police said.

Armstrong’s father said a northbound blue pickup truck crossed over the bridge near the center of the road when Armstrong went to the right (west) side of the road.

Armstrong left the right side of the road and hit two trees before he and the ATV came to rest in nearby water.

The pickup truck continued north without stopping, police said.

The man’s father pulled him from the water and performed CPR until an ambulance could arrive. Unfortunately, his son was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Armstrong was not wearing a helmet and the road has several curves near the bridge.

The road was closed for about two hours while officers investigated.

The crash remains under investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Sgt. Jason Parks at 810-656-1015.
