A 21-year-old Saginaw man is dead after a drive-by shooting Sunday in Kochville Township.
"Very, very disturbing. This should never be something that is normalized. This is extremely disturbing and it bothers me and it should bother all of us," Saginaw County Sheriff William Federspiel said.
The man, who has since been identified as Darius Tavonce Jackson, was in a car with two others, a 17-year-old driver who had a bullet graze his head, and a front seat passenger who was not injured.
Federspiel said no one called police until the three showed up at Covenant hospital in Saginaw.
"If you're involved in a situation like this, please call 911 immediately. Again, we, we may be having a different discussion today had they called us immediately," Federspiel said.
The sheriff believes the men were at the Home2 Suites by Hilton on Trautner Drive. Shortly after they left, a care drove up behind them and shot their vehicle multiple times.
The sheriff's office said deputies were in the Target parking lot when they heard shots fired in the direction of Trautner Driver and Bay Road. Investigators found several bullet casings at that intersection.
"We're hoping that maybe something will jog the victims' memories over the last 24 hours since it's happened that maybe they'll remember something more than they did that night. Again, a very traumatic situation, very scary," Federspiel said.
In the meantime, the sheriff wants to alert parents about getting hotel rooms for homecoming weekend.
"I wanna caution parents too that are renting rooms for their kids. Just to be careful. Unless it's supervised by a responsible adult that, again, it's not being at the hotel that's so much the problem sometimes, but leaving," Federspiel said.
There is no word yet on any motive for the shooting.
