A woman had only minor injuries after a truck topper partially impaled her windshield after that pick-up truck driver suffered a medical condition and lost control.

It happened at around 10:43 a.m. on US-10 in Bay County.

Bay County Sheriff Troy Cunningham said Ricky Smith was driving a red Chevrolet Silverado in the westbound lanes when he suffered a medical condition. His passenger attempted to take the wheel and steer the vehicle but lost control.

The truck hit the median, and the truck’s topper flew forward, going into the windshield of an eastbound maroon Ford SUV.

The SUV was driven by Carol Schroeder who was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The truck eventually came to rest in a nearby farm field. Smith was treated at the scene and was told to see a doctor.

US-10 re-opened shortly before noon.
