A Bay City woman died after one or more of her dogs bit her several times, according to the Bay City Department of Public Safety.
Officers were called to the 3200 block of Westshore Drive on the city’s west side Friday afternoon, Nov. 1.
When officers arrived, they found a 41-year-old woman dead. She has since been identified as Brandy Joy O'Dell, of Bay City.
Bay City Public Safety Captain Caleb Rowell said that O'Dell's live-in boyfriend came home, found her dead, and called 911.
Rowell said he was told she had been home with the dogs for less than one day.
He said the boyfriend put the dogs in crates before police arrived. When they arrived, police said the dogs were well-contained and behaved.
Rowell said police originally thought O'Dell died of natural causes but after an autopsy was conducted, it was determined that O'Dell died from several dog bites by one or more of her pets, police said.
Two dogs were removed from the home and taken to animal control where the dogs are being quarantined.
Police are currently looking into the dogs' history.
