Police are searching for suspects after a 3-year-old was shot and killed while inside a home in Flint.
Officers were sent to the 1600 block of Oklahoma Avenue for the shooting on Thursday, Oct. 22 at 11:23 p.m.
The Flint Police Department said the suspects shot from outside of the residence and hit 3-year-old Messiah Williams while he was in the living room of the home.
According to the investigation, Messiah was taken to Hurley Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition. He later died from his injuries.
"He was such an amazing soul and will be truly missed," said David Hurley, Messiah's grandfather.
He said Messiah loved to play and be with his family.
"This is a tragic loss of a young, innocent life," Hurley said.
While the investigation is still on-going, police do not have a suspect in custody.
"The entire department is upset. First responding officers that had to witness a 3-year-old critically injured from a gunshot, it's very traumatic. I have concerns about the officers. The parents of the 3-year-old and the entire community is upset," Flint Police Chief Terence Green said.
Green said this appears to be a targeted attack and there are three people of interest.
"The ones that committed this crime last night killed a 3-year-old baby. Turn yourself in," Green said.
He said he is confident they will catch those responsible for the horrific crime.
"We are coming for you. And anyone that harbors those responsible, we are coming for you also. And we will see charges against you," Green said.
"My whole family would like for anybody with information to let the Flint Police know or the Michigan State Police," Hurley said.
Green said if you do have information on this case, you can remain anonymous.
A GoFundMe page has been created to help the family during this tragedy.
