A popular store in Mid-Michigan is closing its doors.
McCormick's Country General Store announced Monday on Facebook the store will be closing after almost 30 years.
The store is located on Huron Road in Kawkawlin.
“We are having a storewide liquidation where everything is marked down 30 to 60 percent. Please stop in and get a great deal on candles, gifts or home decor for yourself or for a loved one,” the store wrote on Facebook.
The store currently open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
"Every time I see something good I have to stop and this is the first stop on my list," said Connie Reinert, customer.
Reinert said she was headed up north to her cottage and a stop to McCormick's on the way was on her checklist.
"It's been here for so long. I don't know what they'll do without it being here," Reinert said.
Kathy Davis is a long-time employee at McCormick's. She said their country goods and family feel is what really made a difference for customers.
"Kids love it in here, old people, young people. Everybody finds something. There's funny stuff. And our pickle store has done tremendous. We're always running out of one kind or another," Davis said.
Davis said the owner is looking to go in a new direction.
"People are more modern. We have that niche. There are a lot of people who still like country. I love country, but that's just how it's going," Davis said.
She said what's important is to finish strong in a community they all love.
"Just a big thank you to all our customers. We're going to miss them," Davis said.
The owner, Troy McCormick, said he plans to be closed by this coming Labor Day weekend. Although it's sad and emotional, he said he is looking for a new adventure.
