Residents in one local apartment said their landlord will not turn on the heat for a few more weeks.
“It’s extremely cold, especially at night. And tonight, it’s supposed to get below freezing,” said Chad West, tenant at Pine Ridge Apartments in Clio.
West said management controls the heat in all the units and it has not been turned on.
“I was told from the manager that he probably didn’t want to turn the heat on until around November,” West said.
West said November is too far away.
“With how cold it’s been lately, and I have my kid on the weekends, it’s not acceptable,” West said.
He said he has to wear heavy clothing and wrap himself in blankets at night just to get by.
West said many residents use their stoves to stay warm, but that’s not an option for him because he has a cat.
“My cat, he’ll jump on my stove if I try to turn it on,” West said.
He just wants the heat he pays for and to live comfortably in his own apartment.
“It’s ridiculous to have to live like that,” West said.
The landlord said they are working on the situation. He said residents should expect to have heat within the next day.
