A Saginaw Valley State University professor has been charged with possession of child pornography.

Jason Kahler, assistant professor of English at the university, has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of criminal proceedings, university spokesperson J.J. Boehm said.

The university was notified in August of the FBI's investigation. He was suspended at that time and barred from campus.

The investigation did not find any evidence of illegal activity on Kahler's campus computer, Boehm said.

Kahler began teaching at SVSU in 2010.

"We have received no complaints regarding his professional conduct," Boehm said.
