An 18-year-old Indiana woman is lodged in Genesee County Jail on charges of first-degree premeditated murder.

Ameera Stokes was visiting her father in Mt. Morris Township and was arrested for killing him in the early morning hours on Sunday, May 13th, Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said.

Leyton said Stokes called 911 after she allegedly hit her father several times in the head with a hammer.

While he was laying on a mattress on a cot, convulsing, she stabbed him in the chest, killing him, Leyton said.

Leyton said when police arrived at the home, they found the 53-year-old about half way down a flight of stairs leading to the basement.

Stokes and her father had apparently had a fight sometime in the night that precipitated the attack.

Stokes, who is a resident of Muncie, Indiana, was arraigned Tuesday in Genesee County District Court. Leyton couldn’t comment on what the argument was about or what led the woman to attack her father.

She is being held without bond while the investigation continues.
