(CNN/Meredith) - Newly released video shows the moment a school bus overturned in Ohio and left eight students injured.

The incident happened in Perry County on Dec. 19, according to police.

Police said the driver of a Mustang ran a red light and hit the bus, causing both vehicles to veer off the road and crash into a guardrail. The bus overturned with several kids on board.

Authorities identified the driver of the Mustang as 42-year-old Joseph Thornton. He was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, including a broken back, WSYX-TV reported.

Police said Thornton also had a suspended license and a warrant out for his arrest.

The bus driver and eight students sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Even though the incident happened in December, the Ohio Department of Public Safety released the surveillance footage on Monday, Feb. 10.
