(Meredith) -- Dozens of retailers will close their doors on Thanksgiving Day 2019, giving employees the opportunity to spend more time with their families.

Costco, Lowe's and Sam's Club are among the big box stores that will be closed for the holiday on Thursday, Nov. 28, according to BestBlackFriday.com.

The website recently surveyed more than 1,000 people about their holiday shopping behaviors. About 72% of participants said they believe stores should be closed on Thanksgiving. The survey found that many consumers would rather stay at home for the holiday than out in traffic or shopping among strangers.

Below is a list of 35 stores that have announced they will be closed on Thanksgiving. BestBlackFriday.com predicts that number will grow ahead of the holiday.

I do not believe I have ever gone shopping on Thanksgiving and I think these stores should be applauded for allowing their employees the opportunity to spend the day with their friends and family. I am more apt to visit their stores in the future knowing they have been kind to their employees. There is much more to life than the almighty dollar.
