(Meredith) -- A courtroom in San Antonio, Texas, erupted in chaos when a defendant struck a bailiff after hearing his guilty verdict.

According to KSAT, Otis McKane was found guilty of killing Detective Benjamin Marconi in 2016. McKane shot Marconi while the detective was sitting in his patrol car writing a traffic ticket.

As the guilty verdict was read, McKane took a deep breath and stood up to leave, but not before thrusting his elbow toward a nearby bailiff.

Other deputies rushed McKane, tackling him to the ground. McKane was subdued and the officer who was struck returned to the courtroom shortly after.
