Weather ball in downtown Flint gets new look

The iconic weather ball in downtown Flint has changed.

This is only the third time in its history the letters have been changed out.

The weather ball was put up above Citizen’s Bank in 1956. It was changed to FM for First Merit Bank in 2013.

On April 26, it was changed to a green and white H and B for Huntington Bank. Huntington Bank acquired First Merit in 2016.

The weather ball is 15 feet in diameter, weighs 5,000 pounds and is 70 feet above the ground.

There was even a poem written to reflect what the colors on the weather ball mean:When the weather ball is red, warmer temperatures ahead. When the weather ball is blue, colder temperatures are due. When yellow is the weather ball, there will be no change at all. When it blinks in agitation, there will be precipitation.Copyright 2018 WNEM (Meredith Corporation).
