Sault Ste. Marie, ON. – New York Islanders signee Bode Wilde is set to make his season debut with the Saginaw Spirit (32-15-2-2 68 pts.) on the road against the West Division rival Soo Greyhounds (24-26-2-0 50 pts) Wednesday, February 12 for the seventh of eight regular season meetings.  Puck drop from the GFL Memorial Gardens in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario begins at 7:07 p.m.

Through six games this season, the Spirit have been victorious in the last five contests against the Greyhounds, after dropping the opening meeting on September 28 in Saginaw.

Fans can catch all the action on the flagship WSGW Newsradio 100.5 FM and www.wsgw.com with the voice of Saginaw Spirit hockey Joey Battaino on the call.  “Countdown to Face-off” begins 15 minutes prior to puck drop.

Fans can visit the Buffalo Wild Wings location at 2690 Tittabawassee Road in Saginaw and join the official “Watch Party” for all Spirit away games. Admission is free of charge.

Wilde, who played 20 games this season with the New York Islanders AHL affiliate Bridgeport Sound Tigers, was returned to the Saginaw Spirit for the remainder of this season.  The Plymouth, Michigan native Wilde tallied 19 goals and 51 assists last season for the Spirit, good for third among OHL defenseman and was a finalist for OHL Defenseman of the Year during the 2018-19 season.

Saginaw is coming off a 3-2 victory in an overtime thriller at home Saturday night behind fourth rated North American 2020 NHL Draft prospect Cole Perfetti’s 30th goal of the season just 1:19 into overtime.  The Whitby, Ontario native Perfetti leads the Saginaw Spirit in both assists (57) and points (87) this season.  With an assist in the victory against Guelph Saturday, Perfetti is currently tied with Saginaw Spirit alum Josh Shalla for 10th all-time in team-history with 94 career OHL assists.

2019 Carolina Hurricanes first round pick Ryan Suzuki supplied the assist on Perfetti’s overtime winner Saturday evening.  The London, Ontario native Suzuki has points in 10 of the 12 games the centerman has played in a Saginaw Spirit uniform.

Minnesota Wild prospect Damien Giroux notched his team-leading 32nd goal of the season in the 3-2 overtime victory Saturday.  The Saginaw Spirit captain Giroux’s 32 goals is 10th among OHL players this season.  The Hanmer, Ontario native ranks eighth in Saginaw Spirit team-history with 89 career OHL goals.

New York Islanders prospect Cole Coskey assisted on Giroux’s second period goal Saturday evening.  The Saginaw Spirit all-time games leader Coskey has set career-high totals in assists (37) and points (64) through just 51 games this season.  The Zion, Illinois native sits third in Saginaw Spirit team-history with 99 career goals, behind just Spirit all-time leader Josh Shalla (119) and Ryan McDonough (118).

Spirit goaltender Marshall Frappier was awarded with Saturday’s second-star honor, after the Saginaw back stopper’s 17th victory of the season.  The former Sudbury Wolves draft pick Frappier stopped 21 of Guelph’s 23 shots-on-goal in the overtime triumph Saturday evening.

The Soo Greyhounds are coming off a 10-1 dominant victory over the Central Division’s Niagara IceDogs Saturday evening.  The Greyhounds converted on four of their five man-power advantages against the IceDogs.

2020 NHL Draft prospect Tanner Dickinson provided four points with a goal and three assists for the Greyhounds Saturday night, which was good for the game’s first-star honor.  The Soo rookie has five goals and 26 assists for 31 points in his first OHL season with the Greyhounds.

Caledon, Ontario native Rory Kerins notched his team-leading 25th and 26th goals of the season Saturday against the Niagara IceDogs.  The 2020 NHL Draft prospect trails just Zach Trott (55) for the Soo Greyhounds scoring lead with 48 points this season.

Overage goaltender Bailey Brkin allowed just one goal on 24 Niagara IceDogs shots Saturday night en route to his 15th victory of the season.  In 25 appearances this season for the Greyhounds, the Sherwood Park, Alberta native provided a goals-against average of 3.45 with a .883 save percentage.

The Soo Greyhounds have one player on their roster drafted by a NHL club in defenseman Jacob LeGuerrier (Montreal Canadiens).

The Greyhounds have six players listed in NHL Central Scoutings 2020 NHL Draft mid-term rankings in Ryan O’Rourke (32nd), Jaromir Pytlik (38th), Tanner Dickinson (55th), Rory Kerins (74th), Robert Calisti (137th), and Tye Kartye (173rd).

The Saginaw Spirit have a total of five players on their roster with NHL ties.  Ryan Suzuki (Carolina Hurricanes-signed), Blade Jenkins (NY Islanders), Cole Coskey (NY Islanders), Mason Millman (Philadelphia), and Damien Giroux (Minnesota).

Saginaw has two players listed in the NHL Central Scouting 2020 NHL Draft Mid-term rankings, including fourth ranked prospect Cole PerfettiIlya Solovyov is listed as the 119th North American prospect available.
